Diesel vs. Gas Lifted Trucks: Which Should You Buy?

By the HGreg Lifted build team · July 9, 2026 · 6 min read

One of the biggest decisions on a lifted truck is diesel versus gas. Both make great builds, and the right choice depends on how you use the truck.

When diesel makes sense

Diesel wins on torque and heavy towing, and diesels often hold value well. If you tow big loads regularly or want maximum pulling power, a Power Stroke, Duramax, or Cummins build is worth it.

When gas makes sense

Gas trucks usually cost less up front, are simpler to maintain, and are plenty capable for lighter towing and daily driving. For many owners, a gas half-ton or heavy-duty is the practical pick.

The short version

  • Tow heavy and often, or want max torque? Lean diesel.
  • Want lower cost and simpler upkeep? Lean gas.
  • Daily driving with light towing? Gas is usually plenty.

We build both, and we will help you weigh towing needs, budget, and maintenance so you land on the engine that fits your life. Browse current diesel and gas builds to compare.
